The term chick flick has been created to describe several genres of the movies, including romantic comedies, teenage romance, high school dramas, even coming of age stories, or any combination of those. The name was based on the audience that watched these movies, which are mostly young women. Hence, a chick flick. Over the years, the term evolved and now includes some other genres as well, which aren’t necessarily about breakups or love drama. The target audience also changed and these days plenty of men are now watching chick flicks, although not all of them will admit it.
This is a very popular genre and Netflix has a great selection of chick flicks. Here are some of our choices for your next movie night.

What to do when you meet a girl of your dreams and get friend-zoned? Well, in Noah’s case (Adam Devine), you discover a time machine and set up your own version of Groundhog Day. Noah repeatedly goes back to the day when he met Avery (Alexandra Daddario) on a Halloween party and tries to change the outcome and make her fall in love with him, instead of her fiance. In his pursuit, Noah is relentless, which creates some hilarious, but also romantic situations.
One Day

Emma (Anne Hathaway) and Dexter (Jim Sturgess ) celebrate their college graduation by spending the night together. The movie follows their lives on that day – July 15th – as the years pass. Sometimes they are together, sometimes they are with other people or alone. Based on a novel by David Nicholls, the movie explores the idea of a soulmate and whether it is a real thing or a fiction of our imagination. Emma and Dexter seem like true soulmates, but will that turn out to be true, or will they end up separated? Both seem to be determined to do everything in their power to stay away from each other, as Dexter plows through life powered by sex, drugs, and alcohol, and Emma ending up married to someone else, only to get divorced.

Set it Up seems to follow the worn-out formula of two assistants trying to set up their bosses, but end up together instead. Surprisingly enough, the movie is refreshingly fresh and manages to remain interesting, despite the fact that we all know how it will end. The workaholic bosses (Lucy Liu and Taye Diggs) are driving Harper (Zoey Deutch) and Charlie (Glen Powell) mad. When the two of them meet, they realize that if they get their bosses laid, it may actually improve their lives. Unfortunately, it isn’t as simple as it seems.
Sleeping with Other People

After spending a night together in college, Lainey (Alison Brie) and Jake (Jason Sudeikis) meet again after twelve years. After telling their lives to each other, they both realize how much in common they have got. Both are serial cheater who can’t maintain a relationship to save their lives. Their new platonic relationship seems to be helping them to move on with their lives.
American Honey

Starring: Sasha Lane, Shia LaBeouf, Riley Keough
Star (Sasha Lane) is a teenager with no perspective in life. She joins a traveling sales team selling magazines and she gets the adventure of a lifetime as they roar through Midwest, fueled by hard partying, sex, and plenty of alcohol. Star falls in love with Jake (Shia LaBeouf). The movie is a tad long, but the characters are captivating, making for a fun watch. Written and directed by Andrea Arnold, it is a great combination of romance, coming of age, and road movie. It won the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival.
